On Thursday Moorhead made its presence known in Class 6A by routing Rogers 48-10 in both their season and home opener.
The meeting marked the Class 6A debut for the Spuds and Royals, each making the jump from Class 5A following the 2024 season.
“Anytime you get a win playing in 6A, you got to cherish it and you got to celebrate it. Because there’s a lot of work that goes into these football games and we we don’t get enough opportunities,” Moorhead head coach Kevin Feeney said.
It was a defensive battle on Thursday, with the first quarter ending scoreless. Rogers struck first in the second quarter, only for Moorhead to rally and take a 13-10 lead at halftime. The Spuds took it from there, scoring 35 unanswered points in the second half.
“We had to get in rhythm offensively and just come out and play harder. We weren’t playing as hard as we could,” Moorhead junior wide receiver David Mack said.
