How the Minnesota Top 25 fared in Week 3 high school football

Top-10 losses abounded, but they weren’t exactly upsets. No. 4 Edina fell to No. 12 Eden Prairie, No. 6 Moorhead lost to No. 2 Minnetonka and No. 10 Champlin Park sunk against No. 9 Centennial.

1. Maple Grove (3-0): defeated Mounds View 49-14 at Maple Grove. Maple Grove is also ranked first in Class 6A.

2. Minnetonka (3-0): defeated No. 6 Moorhead 47-21 at Minnetonka. Minnetonka is ranked second in Class 6A, Moorhead fifth. Minnetonka’s Caden Gutzmer completed 16 of 19 passes for 263 yards and a touchdown.

3. Shakopee (3-0): defeated No. 15 Stillwater 49-28 at Stillwater. Shakopee is ranked third in Class 6A.

4. Edina (2-1): lost to No. 12 Eden Prairie 40-19 at Eden Prairie. Edina is ranked fourth in Class 6A, Eden Prairie eighth.

5. Forest Lake (3-0): defeated Park of Cottage Grove 53-0 at Forest Lake. Forest Lake is ranked sixth in Class 6A.

6. Moorhead (2-1): lost to No. 2 Minnetonka 47-21 at Minnetonka. The Spuds played without QB Jett Feeney, who has a shoulder injury.

7. Elk River (5A, 3-0): defeated St. Francis 50-14 at Elk River. Elk River is ranked seventh in Class 5A.

8. Chanhassen (5A, 3-0): defeated Waconia 41-16 at Waconia. Chanhassen is ranked first in Class 5A, Waconia seventh. Chanhassen overpowered Waconia with 200 yards rushing and four touchdowns on the ground.

9. Centennial (3-0): defeated to No. 10 Champlin Park 31-10 at Champlin Park. Centennial is ranked seventh in Class 6A, Champlin Park 10th. Isaac Belinske-Strauss ran for three touchdowns and passed for one for Centennial.

10. Champlin Park (2-1): lost to No. 9 Centennial 31-10 at Centennial.

11. Lakeville South (2-1): defeated Lakeville North 28-12 at Lakeville South. Nic Swanson scored all four of South’s rushing touchdowns.

12. Eden Prairie (2-1): defeated No. 4 Edina at Eden Prairie. Edina is ranked fourth in Class 6A, Eden Prairie eighth. The Hornets held the Eagles scoreless in the second half.

13. Mankato East (5A, 3-0): defeated No. 23 Mankato West 28-7 at MSU Mankato. Mankato East, ranked third in Class 5A, claimed the Kato Jug, the prize to the winner of the annual regular-season game, for the first time after 19 years.

14. Andover (2-1): defeated Coon Rapids 55-14 at Andover. Joseph Mapson ran for three touchdowns and passed for one.

15. Stillwater (1-1): lost to No. 3 Shakopee 49-28 at Stillwater.

16. Prior Lake (1-1): lost to Rosemount 21-17 at Rosemount.

17. St. Thomas Academy (5A, 3-0): defeated Burnsville 49-14 at St. Thomas Academy. St. Thomas Academy is ranked third in Class 5A.

18. Byron (4A, 2-0): defeated Hill-Murray 42-6 at Hill-Murray. Byron’s Elijah Rodemeyer threw three touchdown passes. Byron is No. 1 in Class 4A and Hill-Murray sixth.

19. Mahtomedi (5A, 3-0): defeated St. Louis Park 48-13 at St. Louis Park. Mahtomedi is No. 5 in Class 5A.

20. Spring Lake Park (5A, 3-0): defeated Park Center 38-13 at Park Center. Spring Lake Park is ranked sixth in Class 5A.

21. Jackson County Central (2A, 3-0): defeated Sibley East 77-0 at Jackson County Central. JCC, ranked first in Class 2A, set a school record for points. The record was 76, set in 2019 against Worthington. JCC has averaged 63.7 points per game this season.

22. Hermantown (4A, 3-0): defeated Duluth East 42-22 at Duluth East. Hermantown, ranked fourth in Class 4A, got three rushing touchdowns from Martin Sleen, among them an 85-yarder.

23. Mankato West (5A, 1-2): lost to No. 13 Mankato East 28-7 at MSU Mankato.

24. Minneota (1A, 3-0): defeated Canby 69-0 at Canby. The Vikings, ranked first in Class 1A, ran their winning streak to 36 games.

25. Annandale (3A, 3-0): defeated Foley 40-6 at Foley. Annandale, ranked first in Class 3A, is 25-3 in its past 28 games.
