Streaming Friday: Chanhassen vs. Waconia in battle of top-10 Class 5A football teams

Chanhassen and Waconia each enter Friday’s conference matchup coming off shutout victories, improving their respective records to 2-0.

Both teams made the Class 5A football state rankings, compiled by the Minnesota Star Tribune’s Jim Paulsen and distributed statewide by the Star Tribune. Chanhassen is ranked first and Waconia is ranked seventh.

Chanhassen, No. 8 in Strib Varsity’s Minnesota Top 25, is led by two high-profile recruits in offensive lineman Owen Linder (Iowa) and tight end Kade Bush (Arkansas). The Storm, who won the Class 5A title in 2023 and made the state tournament in 2024, also have quarterback Nathan Ramler, who has opened the year with seven touchdown passes and zero interceptions.

Waconia blanked Apple Valley 35-0 last week, led by Will Kirsch‘s two TDs and an interception. The Wildcats opened the season with a 21-9 win over Northfield.
