Introducing Strib Varsity’s 2025-26 boys hockey Dream Team

Strib Varsity

If this is the State of Hockey and the Land of 10,000 Lakes, can’t we have a State of 10,000 Dream Team Hockey Players? We could, but the list is confined to 15.

Clockwise from top left: Sam Peckham of Edina, Griffin Sturm of St. Cloud Cathedral and Cole Braunshausen of St. Thomas Academy fill three of the 15 spots on the Strib Varsity Dream Team. (Minnesota Star Tribune file)

The Minnesota Star Tribune

OK, there are far more than 15 amazing high school boys hockey players in Minnesota. Three lists like this could be done without mentioning the same player twice.

However, we have to have a cutoff. Here are the 15 players selected for the Strib Varsity 2025-26 Dream Team.

Lincoln Ayers Assad

Holy Angels • center • senior

Ayers Assad has lightning in his skates and is not afraid to take the body.

Tyden Bergeson

Moorhead • forward • senior

A gritty 200-foot player who never gets outworked, Bergeson produced stats of 25-26—51 in 2024-25.

Cole Braunshausen

St. Thomas Academy • forward • senior

A natural scorer who always seems to find the net, Braunshausen produced six goals and 11 points in his first two games of the season.

Cole Bumgarner

Rogers • forward • senior

Great ice vision, instincts and deft puck skills will be showcased in his return from a season in the USHL.

Caz Carlson

Rock Ridge • forward • senior

Committed to St. Cloud State, Carlson has exceptional ice vision, wins puck battles in the corners and passes like a demon.

Cole Cheeseman

Holy Angels • forward • senior

Cheeseman is a shifty rink rat who has elite-level scoring skills.

Joey Cullen

Moorhead • forward • sophomore

The youngest of former NHLer Matt Cullen’s sons could wind up being the best of them all.

Bryce Francisco

Hermantown• goalie • senior

Confident, composed and surehanded, he led the state in save percentage last year at .940.

Grayson Hanggi

Hill-Murray • goalie • senior

Hangii went 19-3-1 with a 1.73 GAA in 2024-25. He sees and tracks the puck well and robs plenty of shooters with his devastatingly fast glove hand.

Tate Hardacre

Minnetonka • defense • senior

A big, physical presence (6-foot-4, 215 pounds), Hardacre is skilled enough to join the rush when needed and is active with his stick.

Chaz Lentz

Hill-Murray • forward • senior

A three-year varsity vet, he’s the Pioneers’ most versatile player and their heart and soul.

Sam Peckham

Edina • defense • senior

Committed to Cornell, he’s a smooth-skating righthanded shooter who will be counted on in a leadership role for the Hornets.

Griffin Sturm

St. Cloud Cathedral • defense • senior

On the Reed Larson Award watch list, Sturm is an agile skater with a high hockey IQ who is always in the right place.

Tate Swanson

Hibbing/Chisholm • forward • senior

Swanson is a heady playmaker with a knack for producing in key moments.

Zac Zimmerman

Moorhead • forward • junior

A high-end talent, Zimmerman returned to the Spuds after initially leaving for juniors.
