Maddyn Greenway passes Tori Oehrlein for state’s all-time basketball scoring record
Providence Academy’s Greenway took the lead over Crosby-Ironton’s Oehrlein for good on Friday, March 6, after Oehrlein’s season ended in an upset.

To watch one history-making athlete chase a career scoring record is extraordinary. To watch two athletes do it nearly in step is extraordinarily special.
As the girls high school basketball postseason began, Crosby-Ironton’s Tori Oehrlein and Providence Academy’s Maddyn Greenway were both in the running for Minnesota’s all-time girls basketball career scoring record — the pair of point guards clear past 5,000 points atop the all-time leaderboard.
And on Friday, March 6, Greenway guaranteed she would graduate with another state record, scoring 43 points in a 97-60 Class 2A, Section 5 championship victory over Maranatha Christian Academy.
Crosby-Ironton’s season came to an end March 3 when Pequot Lakes, the No. 4 seed in Section 7, upset the top-seeded Rangers 61-58.
The pair’s totals as of March 6 are:
- Greenway: 5,505 points (ongoing)
- Oehrlein: 5,485 points (final)
Greenway’s record-setting basket was a made free throw for her 24th point of the game with 2:51 remaining in the first half of the Lions’ section championship victory.
Oehrlein finished her season averaging 37.8 points per game in 28 games. Greenway is averaging 36.4 points per game through 29 games played as of Friday, March 6.
On Jan. 20, Oehrlein broke the girls record of 5,060 points, set by Braham’s Rebekah Dahlman in 2013. On Jan. 29, she broke the all-time state record of 5,119 set by former Lakeview Christian Academy boys basketball player Anders Broman in 2013.
Greenway hit the 5,000 mark with a 37-point performance at Blake on Jan. 30.

Both of the senior point guards’ names are already scrawled all over the state record books.
Greenway is a Kentucky commit, the reigning Strib Varsity All-Minnesota Girls Basketball Player of the Year and a four-time Class 2A basketball champion. She holds the state record for assists in a career (1,113 as of early January and counting) and career points scored at the state tournament (439).
This past fall, playing soccer, Greenway even broke the state’s single-season and career goal-scoring records, too.
Oehrlein, a Gophers commit and no stranger to quadruple-doubles, owns Minnesota’s all-time rebounding record (2,224 boards and counting as of early January) and set a single-game assist record (21). She helped Crosby-Ironton reach its first Class 2A title game last year, facing off against Providence Academy.
In Minnesota, the pair are the only two girls basketball players to have reached 1,000 career points, assists and rebounds. They are also two of only four players in the 4,000-point club, alongside Dahlman and Minnehaha Academy alum Addi Mack, who is in the midst of a standout freshman season at Maryland.
When Dahlman set the existing state record, she eclipsed the 3,888 career points set by eventual WNBA first-round draft pick Tayler Hill, who graduated from Minneapolis South in 2009.
Check back for updates on Oehrlein and Greenway’s scoring totals throughout the remainder of the 2025-26 girls basketball season.
