Week 2 of the 2025 Minnesota high school football season is complete. Here’s a look at three more games that proved interesting, and follow these links to see other moments you missed:

Edina 40, Wayzata 14

Edina surrendered the first touchdown of the game to Wayzata on Friday. The Hornets then rattled off 40 straight points and defeated the visiting Trojans 40-14.

The comeback came on the sort of breezy, cool football night more common in October than the first weekend of September.

After the Hornets, No. 4 in the Minnesota Top 25, got started with a 3-yard touchdown pass from Mason West to Jabari Strader, they stopped the Trojans with a quick three-and-out. Then punt returner Alex White set up the Hornets offense with a short field.

“We knew the punts were going to be shorter. We practiced for that. We wanted to make sure he knew to catch it first,” Edina coach Jason Potts said. “Fortunately, it was a line drive right at him. It got to him so quickly, they weren’t able to set up.”

Chase Bjorgaard completed the drive with a 6-yard touchdown run that gave the Hornets the lead for good. Bjorgaard finished the game with 143 rushing yards and three touchdowns; he has averaged 162 rushing yards in Edina’s two victories, carrying 39 times.

“He is a critical part of our offense,” Potts said. “It is also a credit to our offensive line and tight ends for opening the holes. Chase is a tough kid. He fights for extra yards. We can give him the ball on first down. Then we can take a shot on second and short. If we don’t get it there, we have the confidence that we can give it back to him on third down.”

West scrambled for a pair of touchdowns of his own; he has scored twice on the six carries he’s credited with this season. A two-sport superstar drafted by the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks, West is a good enough athlete to run the ball on every play, but Potts and the Hornets offensive coaches don’t want him taking that many hits, so they rarely call designed quarterback runs.

Thor Soukup threw two touchdown passes to John Evans for the Trojans (0-2).

Stewartville 20, Totino-Grace 14

Stewartville’s last loss — the Tigers’ only defeat in the past three seasons — came in the state tournament quarterfinals in 2022. Stewartville won the past two Class 3A state championships, going 14-0 in 2023 and 14-0 in 2024.

The Tigers don’t do one-score games. The last time they played one was a one-point loss to Byron in the Class 4A, Section 1 semifinal Oct. 30, 2021.

So it came as a surprise when Totino-Grace (0-2) scored with 5 minutes, 15 seconds left Friday and was tied 14-14 with Stewartville (2-0). Totino-Grace had trailed by two touchdowns at halftime, until Ben Bergen and Henry Cone scored on short runs.

“That is a situation none of our varsity players have been in,” Stewartville coach Garrett Mueller said. “Naturally, you feel it when they score. I’m proud of how [the players] responded.”

The response was this:

Malik Abdi scored his second touchdown of the night with 50 seconds left. Abdi finished the game with 246 yards and two touchdowns on 38 carries.

“He’s a big part of what we do,” Mueller said. “He’s our best returning offensive skill player.”

Centennial 49, Osseo 14

The Cougars (2-0, No. 15 in the Minnesota Top 25) pulled away from the Orioles with three touchdowns in the second quarter. Isaac Belinske-Strauss had two touchdown runs and Calvin Coppersmith one during that stretch, turning a one-point lead into a three-score advantage at halftime.

Amid all that scoring, Centennial coach Mike Diggins credited his improving defense.

“We got some breaks. Our young defense stepped up,” he said. “Our defensive staff is really good. They will get to where we want them to be, but right now they make three plays and then make a mistake.”

Coppersmith also scored in the first quarter, and Tobie Serna and Jaylen Holden had touchdown runs in the third quarter for Centennial.

Philip Sieh and Jibril Hall scored for the Orioles (1-1). Sieh’s touchdown came on a 73-yard run in the first quarter and Hall’s on a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter.
