The Minnesota Star Tribune

We had so much fun with you all on Night 1 of Opening Week of Minnesota high school football that we’re coming back for seconds. At 9:30 tonight, episode 2 of “Strib Varsity Live with Randy Shaver” will stream on stribvarsity.com, and you can watch it right here.

The first show aired Thursday night, with more than 80 games being played across Minnesota. Here’s the link to watch the full show from Thursday night. Like Thursday’s show, Friday’s show will not have a paywall, free for all to watch.

We had a blast with Episode 1. Some of our favorite moments included Roman Voss calling in to chat with Shaver from the Jackson County Central team bus; Owen Linder calling in after Chanhassen’s dramatic win; and a still-amped-up Howie Johnson talking about Forest Lake’s big victory. Make sure to check out those chats in the show.

On a much different note, Holy Angels coach Jim Gunderson joined Shaver in-studio to talk about matters much more important than football. Two children were killed this week in a shooting in Annunciation Church, a feeder school for Holy Angels. Our city and state are hurting from another evil tragedy, and the Annunciation/Holy Angels community is feeling that at another level. The Minnesota Star Tribune again expresses its thanks to Gunderson for joining the Thursday night show and contributing to our collective healing.

We hopefully can all find some respite in another night of exciting football action across the state. Join us at 9:30 p.m.

“Strib Varsity Live with Randy Shaver” is a streaming show and can be watched on any screen. Our audience is most frequently on their smartphones, and the show can be viewed on any device, including laptops and smart TVs. You can cast the show from your phone to your smart TV, or if you are a Roku user by downloading the MCN6 app and watching the show on MCN6’s live station.

On whatever screen you watch, you get to see Shaver back in the saddle.

“What a thrill it is to join the team at the Minnesota Star Tribune,” Shaver said before the season. “And I can’t wait to dive back into the madness that is live broadcasting. We’re bringing back a Minnesota tradition: live football-night reporting, all on your screen.“

Frandsen Featured Game

There is a lot of buzz around the Moorhead Spuds this season, and their opener against Rogers was our Frandsen Bank and Trust Featured Game of the Night on Thursday night. We led our “Live” show with that one, and you can find Alicia Tipcke’s full story on the Spuds win right here.
