In the largest-schools classification, both Eagan and Hopkins moved more than two spots in Class 4A.
Half of the teams placed in the top 10 of this week’s ranking have already lost one game through mid December.
Defending state champion and No. 1 Wayzata will get its first true test of the season Saturday night against No. 5 Cretin-Derham Hall.
Wayzata, the top-ranked team in the state among all classifications, ranks No. 1 in Class 4A. Totino-Grace is ranked No. 1 in Class 3A.
The top squads are riddled with talented players, some back from last season and others who transferred from other schools.
Class 4A’s higher seeds all won, though Wayzata was tested by Moorhead, and Classes 3A and 2A also went according to form.
Also, Hopkins sophomore Erma Walker plays a part in girls basketball state history.
This edition of the Star Tribune’s Minnesota Top 25 ranks the best boys basketball teams in the state tournament.
Cretin-Derham Hall (Class 4A), Mankato East (3A) and Albany (2A) received the No. 1 seeds. The Class 1A seeds will be released Saturday night.
The brackets will be revealed Saturday, and quarterfinals will begin Tuesday.
