Minnetonka is pressing Maple Grove for the No. 1 spot in the Week 3 Strib Varsity rankings.

Three of the top 10 teams lost Friday night, but two fell to other top-10 teams, and all lost to ranked teams.

Lakeville South at Shakopee and Eden Prairie at Maple Grove are other games pondered by staff writers Jim Paulsen and Marcus Fuller.

Eagan, boosted by transfer Mesa Jameson, is on the rise in the list compiled weekly by Strib Varsity’s Marcus Fuller. Lakeville South and Lakeville North hold the top two spots.

Strib Varsity’s Jim Paulsen didn’t see anything to change his mind in a big way, and he doesn’t see much that separates the first four teams.

Lakeville South (Class 4A), Marshall (3A), Hawley (2A) and Minneota (1A), No. 1 in the preseason, retained the top spots in the rankings released by the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association on Aug. 31.

The preseason ranking starts with the defending Class 4A champion, moves to a rival from its own school district and then hits the rest of the state.

Ryan Meagher’s Prep Bowl-record six rushing touchdowns leads Minneota to 70-20 victory over Springfield in the Class 1A title game at U.S. Bank Stadium — the third straight year Minneota took down Springfield in the championship.

Minneota and Springfield will compete for the third consecutive time in the Class 1A Prep Bowl, this one set for 10 a.m. Friday at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The Mayer Lutheran Crusaders played in the state final for the fourth year in a row and won the school’s fifth title.
