Marshall remains No. 1 in the ranking, but Strib Varsity writer Marcus Fuller has different teams in nine of the top 10 spots.

Seven teams in Class 4A’s top 10 competed in the tournament Friday and Saturday, along with Marshall, No. 1 in 3A.

Marshall, Chanhassen and the Lakeville schools, all squads that have been No. 1 in their class this season, hold the top four spots.

Chanhassen is the new No. 1, ahead of Lakeville North and Lakeville South, while the No. 1 teams in Class 3A, 2A and 1A remain the same.

Marshall won its Southwest Minnesota Challenge last weekend, catapulting the Tigers into the No. 1 position.

Lakeville North replaces rival at No. 1 in Class 4A, while Marshall (3A), Hawley (2A) and Minneota (1A) hold steady in the coaches poll released Sept. 7.

Lakeville South (Class 4A), Marshall (3A), Hawley (2A) and Minneota (1A) retained the top spots in the statewide coaches poll released Aug. 31.

The matchup lent a high-profile feel to the day when most fall prep sports began their 2024 competition.

As fall practice begins, Champlin Park is ranked No. 1 and Lakeville North No. 2, and they will play each other on the season’s first day.
