Maple Grove rose to the top in Class 4A, and Eagan surged up the list into a tie for second.
Mayer Lutheran and Minneota, the teams that played for the state title last fall, switched spots atop their class’ list.
Lakeville South rose to No. 1 in Class 4A, moving Chanhassen down to No. 2.
Surprising teams often feature surprise standouts, and even well-established programs have under-the-radar athletes.
Chanhassen is the new No. 1, ahead of Lakeville North and Lakeville South, while the No. 1 teams in Class 3A, 2A and 1A remain the same.
Lakeville North replaces rival at No. 1 in Class 4A, while Marshall (3A), Hawley (2A) and Minneota (1A) hold steady in the coaches poll released Sept. 7.
Lakeville South (Class 4A), Marshall (3A), Hawley (2A) and Minneota (1A) retained the top spots in the statewide coaches poll released Aug. 31.
The teams are rivals from the Three Rivers Conference, and each has players ranked among Minnesota’s top recruits.
The season begins with a match right off the top of the rankings and continues with more volleyball and lots of Week 1 football.
The list runs 16 players deep and includes athletes committed to the nation’s top programs, including two who plan to play for the Gophers.
