Ahead of the final games of the regular season, Centennial and Lakeville South moved into the upper echelon in Class 6A.
As the regular season nears its Wednesday end, a few unforeseen upsets and close games Friday jumbled Jim Paulsen’s list.
Fergus Falls had an opportunity to recover from last week’s loss to Rocori and hand Marshall its first defeat of the year Friday. The game streamed live on Strib Varsity.
Class 6A’s Maple Grove stands alone as a unanimous top pick in the seven football classes.
Maple Grove, Minnetonka, Forest Lake and Lakeville South remain in, holding the top four spots. Also important is who’s out: Chaska and Fergus Falls exited after losing last week.
James Engle lifted Maple Grove over St. Michael-Albertville, Lakeville South caught a break vs. Edina, and Woodbury and Marshall rallied.
Chanhassen quarterback Nathan Ramler called in for a conversation with Randy Shaver, as did football coaches from across Minnesota.
No. 7 Shakopee scored twice in the final minute but couldn’t catch up to Prior Lake. Ranked teams Moorhead, Chaska and Fergus Falls also lost.
Serious shuffling came to the seven top-10s, but No. 1 teams stood strong.
The list begins this week with five undefeated teams still left out — Kasson-Mantorville, Minneapolis North, North Branch, Waseca and Albert Lea — but angling for more attention.
