Four of the top 10 teams — Shakopee, Centennial, Elk River and Chanhassen — lost on a night when weather weighed in across the state.

Shakopee, Centennial, Chanhassen and Elk River all suffered their first losses of the season. Maple Grove and Minnetonka improved to 4-0.

In the only change at the top, Elk River took over at No. 1 in Class 5A.

The Elks defeated the Cardinals 33-24 to win last year’s Class 5A football state title, and the two teams met again Friday in a game livestreamed on Strib Varsity.

Defending champs Maple Grove, Jackson County Central and Minneota rank No. 1 in respective classifications.

Awarded by the Minnesota Star Tribune, the honors recognize outstanding accomplishments from the 2024-2025 high school sports season.

In football, Maple Grove, Minnetonka and Moorhead will compete in Class 6A Section 6. In boys hockey, Rogers will join the same section as 12-time state champion Edina.
